Symms to take new role at White Bear MGA and Blenheim Underwriting 150 150 Haggie Partners

White Bear Group, owner of Blenheim Underwriting and MGA White Bear Managers, is pleased to announce the appointment of John Symms to the new role of group head of capital solutions. Symms will source and develop (re)insurance support for White Bear’s MGA lines and will coordinate reinsurance at Blenheim.

Symms joins from Fidelis and his appointment closely follows that of David Barber, announced in May. Both announcements underpin White Bear’s ambition to expand its two underwriting businesses.

Peter Scales, chairman and CEO of White Bear Capital, said: “This appointment marks another important step in our ambitions for the Syndicate 5886 and the MGA. John is very well respected in the market, his track record is impressive, and he is the kind of high-calibre talent we are successfully looking to attract. He will lend valuable support and experience to our outwards reinsurance strategy across each of our lines of business.”

Symms was most recently head of outwards reinsurance at Fidelis MGU. He began his career in 1989 with English and American Insurance Company and then went to Reliance National in 1993 before joining Talbot Underwriting in 2004, where he left in 2019 as outwards reinsurance manager.
