BMS Group, (“BMS”), the independent specialist (re)insurance broker, today announced that Rod Spurrell has joined as managing director at Lions Gate Underwriting (“Lions Gate”), a specialist MGA launched in 2015 by BMS Canada Risk Services (“BMS Canada”), BMS’s Canadian subsidiary. Spurrell’s appointment is effective immediately and he will be based in Toronto. He reports to Brian Gomes, president and CEO at BMS Canada.
Spurrell joins Lions Gate with over 24 years’ experience in the insurance industry from Markel Canada, where he had a long and distinguished career. He initially joined as an underwriter in 1995 and progressed to a series of senior roles, most recently serving as vice president, underwriting. Spurrell specialised in environmental impairment liability, excess & umbrella, architects and engineers E&O and medical malpractice.
