BMS launches new global healthcare division with Rob Wendin to lead 150 150 Haggie Partners

BMS, the independent specialist insurance and reinsurance broker, today announces the launch of its new global healthcare liability division with Rob Wendin as managing director. The new division will provide solutions and guidance to healthcare providers and their insurers and access to BMS’s broad range of insurance, reinsurance and risk management services and products. Wendin joined in December 2023 and is based in London. Six have already joined Rob, with more to follow, making the team the largest and most experienced medical malpractice team in the London Market.

Wendin, who will report to Andrew Wheeler, president and CEO at BMS Re, joins with impressive experience across insurance, reinsurance, and healthcare spanning more than 40 years. Most recently managing director of healthcare at Guy Carpenter and before that a senior partner at JLT’s Healthcare Risk Partners and managing director at Marsh’s EMEA Healthcare Practice, Wendin is a respected veteran on healthcare liability and risk management issues and has worked in senior positions across the globe. He also brings a deep understanding of how underwriters think and operate having established and led Allied World’s successful European Healthcare underwriting platform.

The division will focus on working with BMS’s clients to develop and provide access to new market capacity, innovative solutions and risk management advice, and provide advice and transactional services such as technical coverage issues for medical malpractice and associated liabilities.

Wendin and his team will work seamlessly with BMS Re’s long-established treaty healthcare liability team – led by Clare Stenson – ensuring cedents, hospitals, integrated systems and captives continue to benefit from the best-in-class service for which BMS is renowned.
Andrew Wheeler said: “As we continue to grow our industry-leading medical professional liability practice, Rob’s unparalleled experience across both insurance and reinsurance will be a huge asset to BMS.

“Alongside Clare Stenson and her team, the formation of Rob’s global healthcare division means we have a breadth and depth of experience which spans insurance, reinsurance, treaty, and facultative arrangements, which – crucially – isn’t inhibited by geographical or organisational barriers.
“In addition, Rob’s leadership experience will only benefit our existing team and clients as we continue to go above and beyond to help cedents, hospitals, integrated systems and captives in this rapidly evolving risk sector.”

Wendin added: “BMS has been going from strength to strength and it shows no sign of slowing down as a result of the way it puts its colleagues and clients first. I am delighted by the opportunity to lead this new division and look forward to being a part of BMS’s fantastic story.”
