Argenta Syndicate Management Ltd today announces the appointment of Simon Saunders as Unit Head Marine Reinsurance, reporting to Heath Callan, Argenta Divisional Head of Energy and Marine, effective July 2026.
Simon joins Argenta with over 25 years’ experience in reinsurance underwriting, spanning Marine, Energy, Aviation and Specialty treaty lines. He brings expertise in foreign market (FMX) treaty business, alongside a strong track record of managing international portfolios and delivering profitable underwriting performance across market cycles
Most recently, Simon was a Senior Marine Underwriter at Swiss Re, where he focused on treaty placements and portfolio evaluation within the London Market. Prior to this, he held a number of senior leadership roles at Barbican Syndicate 1955 (later Arch), including Head of Reinsurance, Head of Marine Division and Head of Short Tail Lines, with responsibility for globally diversified portfolios across multiple specialty classes.
Earlier in his career, Simon was a Partner at JLT Re and held roles at Aon and Agnew Higgins Pickering, where he built extensive broker and client relationships across Europe, the US and Asia.
Simon will work closely with Stephen Haynes, current Unit Head Marine Reinsurance, to ensure a smooth transition of full responsibilities ahead of Stephen’s planned retirement in January 2027.
In his new role, Simon will be responsible for underwriting Argenta’s marine reinsurance treaty portfolio, strengthening the business’s position in international markets and building on its established broker relationships.
